The course

During the last week I took part of a course proposed by the Institute of Design @SUPSI called Intensive course on research state of the art and Wikipedia for PhD students/Mendrisio.
The course was designed to help PhD students in being in touch for the first time with Wikipedia, specifically in editing or creating new articles on the free encyclopedia.
During the course we had as well the occasion to explore the correct usage of public available sources, sharing of personal data such as images, and the usage of free licenses (specifically creative commons).

What was my contribution

The course assignment was the development of a single, or multiple, Wikipedia articles on the topic of the PhD research of each participant.
I took this as a personal challenge, I started my PhD practically 7 days before.
After a brief research, I noticed that there was not a page dedicated to Urban Manufacturing in English, I so decided to jump into the journey of creating it.
The path was long and full of learnings into the domain of writing and specifically on encyclopaedic writing.

What is interesting about the community

From my side, I found extremely interesting the possibility to have a research page where I can write what I have found on a specific topic, but most of all to have the possibility from others to have a look at it and give their opinion using the talk page.
In fact, by reading to comments and then applying what they suggested I actually discovered different possibilities and even connection on what I wrote. This is a valuable part that is extremely useful for my research.
