Experience iMprint, an interactive installation at the Locarno Film Festival that transforms participants' body movements into dynamic leopard projections, allowing for creative self-expression and the creation of personalized digital posters.

Abstract

iMprint is an interactive installation dedicated to the Locarno Film Festival, offering visitors the opportunity to create a digital poster for the 2022 edition using their body movements. Participants’ images are projected as dynamic leopards on a wall, providing a playful space for self-expression and the creation of a digital souvenir.

Concept

The installation utilizes the official Locarno Film Festival poster, featuring a uniquely designed leopard symbolizing elegance and strength. Interaction is initiated by a motion sensor upon the participant’s entry, with a camera capturing body movements to animate the leopard projection. A floor-mounted physical button allows participants to capture images of their generated posters.

Process Development

Developed over a two-week university project in May 2022, the iMprint installation was created by a team comprising Juan Camillo Alzate Pena, Roberta Arnesano, Anastasiya McCurry, and myself. As the Developer, together with Juan Camillo, I was responsible for developing the source code for the prototype, integrating Spark AR, Python, and Arduino technologies. The project involved in-depth research into interactive installations and the Locarno Film Festival’s history and branding.

Note

The project was developed during the Prototyping Interactive Installations course of the Master of Arts in Interaction Design at SUPSI together with my collegues Juan Camillo Alzate Pena, Roberta Arnesano and Anastasiya Mccurry.
