Abstract
The Nino Discord AI bot is an open-source educational tool developed as part of the Seminari Interdisciplinari at DACD. Its purpose is to demystify generative artificial intelligence for students, providing a practical means of exploring its underlying mechanisms and fostering collaborative project development.
Concept
Within the interdisciplinary seminars (2024 & 2025), attended by students from five degree programmes, Civil Engineering (CV), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Architecture (AR), Construction Engineering (CR), and Industrial Design (IC), at the Department of Environment, Buildings and Design (DACD), a need arose for a tool to facilitate understanding of artificial intelligence systems. Nino addresses this by offering an accessible platform for students to engage with generative AI in a collaborative setting. The bot allows for customisation of parameters typically restricted within proprietary models, granting students greater control over the creative process and decision-making.
Process Development
Nino enables students to experiment with configuring AI functionalities and collaboratively generate original textual and audio content through group chats. This approach encourages a personalised and experimental learning experience. Customising prompts and model parameters allows students to express their individual creativity and technical expertise, actively contributing to collective projects. The development prioritises balancing individual contribution with collaborative effort, valuing both student autonomy and effective teamwork. A poster presentation and interactive device will be used to demonstrate how Nino supports both the individual and collective dimensions of learning within the classroom, promoting peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and collaboration.
