Learn web development fundamentals! This week-long seminar introduces visual communication students to HTML, CSS & JavaScript.

Abstract

This week-long seminar was created to introduce visual communication students to the fundamentals of web application development, utilising HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The programme aims to provide a solid grounding in essential technologies for those seeking to expand their digital skillset.

Concept

The Seminario Programmazione Web (Web Programming Seminar) is designed specifically for Bachelor of Arts students in Visual Communication (second and third year) at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI). The seminar recognises the increasing importance of web development skills within the broader field of visual communication, offering a practical introduction to core technologies. It’s structured around two key phases: familiarisation with foundational concepts and subsequent hands-on project development.

Process Development

The seminar is divided into two distinct stages. Initially, students will become familiar with HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript through targeted lessons focusing on vocabulary and syntax. This phase ensures a shared understanding of the building blocks of web development. The second stage provides an opportunity for practical application; students will develop individual projects to demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge and skills. This project-based learning approach reinforces comprehension and fosters creative problem-solving.
